Senator Applewhite represents Cumberland County in North Carolina’s 19th Senatorial District. Her committee appointments include Commerce and Insurance, State and Local Government, Pensions and Retirement and Appropriations on Agriculture and Natural, and Economic Resources. She has additional appointments to the Joint Emergency Management Oversight Committee and the Environmental Review Commission.

A Lifelong Public Servant
A decorated veteran, Senator Applewhite retired honorably after a 20-year Intelligence and Communications Security career in the United States Air Force. She continued her public service as an Air Force civilian leading the Information Assurance Directorate at the Air Force Pentagon Communications Agency in Washington D.C. Her expertise in national security and crisis management was most notably demonstrated during the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon when she adeptly managed the evacuation of her directorate and led crucial recovery operations, reflecting her exceptional leadership and dedication.

Senator Applewhite served three terms on the Fayetteville NC City Council. Her tenure as a Council Representative underscores her commitment to economic development, safety, and the well-being of citizens. She was instrumental in improving public transportation, advocating for minority business participation, and fostering local economic growth.

Applewhite’s educational accomplishments include a MS in Political Science and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, complement her extensive experience in public service. She is a Real Estate Broker and manages her own firm. Her personal drive and professional trajectory reflect her dedication to creating positive changes in her community and beyond.
